The interesting thing about latex is that it is a huge part of our society, often without being noticed. For example, carpet backing, pencil erasers, baby pacifiers, wheelchair tires, toys, balloons, and even elastic in clothing is latex. However, most people relate latex to adhesive tape used in hospitals, which is yet another example. Because so many people have latex allergy and the number of things made from latex is growing, symptoms are on the rise.

Take the healthcare industry for example – this particular area is surrounded by latex in the form of tape, surgical gloves, disposable syringes, and blood pressure cuffs. Because doctor’s offices, clinics, and hospitals use so much latex, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have released results of a study that show a minimum of 12% of all healthcare workers eventually deal with some level of latex allergy. Even so, the biggest concern regarding latex allergy relates to children with disability since their small, sick bodies are highly sensitive and susceptible, putting them at greater risk.

Keep in mind that when it comes to latex allergy, there are many different forms of reaction, some minor and some major. For instance, a Type 1 latex allergy is considered as hypersensitive, which produces symptoms ranging from minor such as watery eyes and a runny nose to more severe problems that would include nausea and vomiting, hives, and shortness of breath. With Type 1, the problem is that latex particles become airborne and then inhaled.

For Type 4 latex allergy, the reaction is limited to any exposed area. This would include someone having surgery and the bandages being held on by latex tape. The result is a skin rash and irritation, swelling, and redness that typically lasts anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. Obviously, this type of latex allergy is not nearly as serious although it is quite frustrating.

Keep in mind that latex is actually a natural product that comes from a rubber tree’s sap. Because it is so flexible, strong, and costs very little to manufacture, it takes first place over many similar manmade products. If you suspect that you have a latex allergy, you can see your doctor for a thorough examination and blood work. This test involves looking at a certain antibody called IgE immunoassays, which is performed through skin testing.

This particular test is currently being approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and while it is highly accurate for proving latex allergy, it is not designed to determine the severity of the allergy. Therefore, in addition to the testing, if you have reaction to latex, you should avoid using it, turning instead to vinyl or plastic.

Nitrile gloves can be substituted for latex if you are allergiv to latex. If you are allergic to nitrile you will need to find another alternative.

Why Choose Semperguard Nitrile Gloves

Nitrile gloves are very similar to latex gloves as they have also been made from synthetic latex, but do not actually contain the proteins that latex ones have. These types of gloves are far more durable than other gloves being used as protective wear and are resistant not only to being punctured but tearing as well. The Nitrile glove is in fact three times as strong as traditional rubber gloves and are also resistant to many chemicals that are used in medical and industrial environments as well as in the home.

Unlike latex gloves, Nitrile ones are very easy to put on as they are far less resistant to friction. The gloves are extremely popular with medical professionals as they are also very flexible. When you are thinking about buying gloves such as these then are a few things that you will need to take into consideration first.

Firstly you need to think about how much protection you want the gloves to provide you with. Secondly, you need to look at not just the quality of the gloves, but also the way in which they have been produced. Finally, you need to discover whether they are likely to cause any kind of allergic reaction in you when you wear them.

All Nitrile gloves are given a grade and it is this which will quickly tell you what level of protection that they offer to you. The grades for any kind of Nitrile glove are from 1 to 3 and the higher the number the more protection they will provide to the person wearing them. In most cases Nitrile gloves which come with a grade 3 are those worn by those in medical fields from doctors, to surgeons, to nurses to paramedics.

However, there are Nitrile gloves that one can use at home and these are of a far less superior quality than those used by medical professionals. However, they still offer your hands good protection no matter what task you are doing. Wear these kinds of gloves around the home when you are doing tasks such as painting or cleaning drains.

All Nitrile gloves have inside them cornstarch which further helps to make the process of actually putting them on much easier. As well as them coming in a variety of different sizes so that they fit all hands. You can either purchase them from extra small to extra large sizes and there are differences also in the thickness of the gloves as well. Plus they can also be made in a number of different textures so you are sure to find a pair that meet your own particular requirements perfectly.

Before you purchase any Nitrile gloves you need to know exactly what size you should be buying. The best way of working out what size you need is to find out the circumference of your hand. You do this by taking a tape measure or ruler and placing it across the palm of your hand from the base of the thumb to the other side that is level with it.

It is vital that after purchasing your Nitrile gloves that you make sure that you store them properly. These gloves should be at all times get out of the way of direct sources of light or heat. Unfortunately if left near a heat source or somewhere that light is able to shine onto them then very quickly the material that they are made from begins to disintegrate. This will then mean that when you use them they will offer you little or no protection.

Some women develope allergies after giving birth. Can they be treated? How can you get

Natural Allergy Treatment; Just Wishful Thinking?

There is a natural allergy remedy new to North America but centuries old in the East. Thousands of people have been pleasantly surprised as their allergies are relieved with this potent formula.

There is a growing trend towards natural allergy treatment for many people because of concerns over side effects from prescriptions. It seems that allergies are affecting a growing number of people each year similar to the growth rate of serious diseases like cancer, stroke and heart disease. Luckily there is an effective allergy treatment found in a natural botanical.

This botanical reaches into numerous areas of your body and targets whatever needs the most attention, while correcting allergies as well. There are hundreds of years of folk lore and decades of scientific research behind it, and more focused research is being done every year. Some studies are focusing on one specific nutrient called the Xanthone. There are about 200 xanthones in nature, most of which are found in wood, and over 40 found in a fruit called Mangosteen. (not related to Mango)

Get Tested For Allergies

By getting an allergy test done you’ll know what to remove from your diet or what to stay away from. This is obvious but neccesary, and with a little discpline you can start your allergy treatment. There are also a lot of allergens beyond your control so the next step is to increase your allergy resistance.

A well prescribed allergy treatment will eliminate discomfort, reduce the severity and maybe even go as far as eliminate your symptoms. Unfortunately, most pills just mask your symptoms and in some cases become less effective over time. If your allergies are serious and life threatening, then you should carry an Epi-Pen with you and renew it each year.

Our North American health system is the best in the world in many respects, but lacking in other areas. Many Doctors will never admit when they don’t know how to help you and resort to prescriptions because of their training. If they knew of an effective natural allergy treatment, there’s no doubt they would tell you about it.

A Point To Consider

With the endless list of allergens that could cause your reaction, how effective is an allergy pill when it’s just an antihistamine? It makes more sense when an allergy treatment is focused on helping your body heal itself. Especially when part of the treatment is anti-inflammitory to help with breathing, reduce swelling, hives and itching. It’s even better when it’s from a powerful natural source that has a compliment of nutrients working together.

The natural allergy treatment I’m reffering to is found in the Mangosteen fruit. In this delicious fruit is a specific nutrient called xanthone. It’s a powerful antioxidant that controls a wide range of healing functions. It’s a double bonded molucule with side chains, and each side chain addresses a different health problem.

Xanthones; Natures Hero

It’s important to know why a double bonded molucule is significant, especially as an allergy treatment. Xanthones have a skeletal structure (the double bond) and side chains. Each side chain can deliver a different treatment and when active in your body will seek and destroy viruses, fungus, parasites and other nasty intruders. It will also strenthen vital organs by helping your immune system.

A double bonded molucule is re-enforced and has lasting power, not like antioxidants that expire on first contact with a free radical for instance. Because of the backbone structure, the side chains are anywhere from 10 to 50 times more effective than nutrients found in most fruits and vegetables. What’s even more amazing is how it out performs concentrated extracts like co-enzyme Q10 for instance.

Natures Powerhouse Allergy Treatment

Now that Mangosteen is becoming known in DOctors offices, those who are aware are begining to prescribe Mangosteen first and pills later if a condition persists. The number of Doctors who know about this is minimal, but you can introduce it to your Doctor and help this trend grow.

Remember when Aloe Vera first came out in the late 70′s? It quickly became a household name and every mother had a plant in the house for scrapes and cuts. Today you can walk into any health food store and see six or eight brands of Aloe Vera Juice on the shelf. Aloe Vera has one xanthone, Mangosteen has 43!

Xanthones Heal

Mangosteen has been used in Asian culture for hundreds of years. It has been used for numerous health problems too long to list here, but most importantly it’s a powerful allergy treatment. The majority of xanthones in Mangosteen are found in the rind which is very bitter tasting by itself, so that may be why it didn’t go commercial until just recently.

A special process is required to make the juice of the whole fruit taste good. Without including the rind in Mangosteen juice, it would not be an effective allergy treatment.

*** Use Mangosteen To Eliminate Allergies ***

Don’t wait another moment… Start getting relief today. Discover what thousands of other people swear by Allergy Treatment

When using antibiotics you need to be aware that they can deplete the body’s natural bacteria as well. These can be replenished by probiotice, but you also need to be aware of probiotic therapy and allergies, since you can be allergic to both, the antibiotics and the replacements. The folowing article has some tips for safely using probiotics.

3 Simple & Easy Ways To Safely Use Probiotics After Taking Acne Antibiotics

Once you have acne under control, the first thing on your mind is probably socializing, shopping and generally leaving your skin related health woes behind. However, if antibiotics were apart of your acne axing regime, you may want probiotics to be apart of your acne-afterlife.

Patricia Raymond, a gastroenterologist and assistant professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School, finds that antibiotic usage can negatively impact the colon. Raymond explains, "As antibiotics work to treat a disease, they also kill off healthy micro-organisms in the gastrointestinal tract, paving the way for harmful bacteria to take over."

Probiotics are bacteria that co-exist in the colon with so-called "bad" colon bacteria. About 100 trillion microorganisms populate a healthy bowel. Probiotics balance the pathogen (harmful microorganisms) count, aid digestion and nutrient absorption, and facilitate immune function.

If the number of probiotics drops significantly- due to acne antibiotic usage- other health problems like diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome could result.

You can restore probiotic stability after a series of acne antibiotics in three simple steps.

1. Eat foods that help probiotics thrive

2. Minimize your stress level

3. Take the right probiotics in the right proportions

1.Eat foods that help probiotics thrive
Gary Huffnagle, PhD, of the University of Michigan Health System, is a pioneering researcher into the world of probiotics. Huffnagle recommends supporting probiotic growth by increasing the amount of cultured dairy products you eat, such as cheeses and yogurt.

To encourage probiotics from these dairy products to multiply even further, Huffnagle suggests consuming foods like spices, tea, red wine, berries, apples and beans.

2.Minimize your stress level

Not only should you minimize stress because research teams at Wake Forrest University discovered that stress aggravates acne prone skin, but stress also weakens the colon where probiotics need to work. Research has implicated chronic stress in the development of irritable bowel syndrome and in the worsening of inflammatory bowel disease symptoms.

Moreover, stress sensitizes the gut which increases the likelihood of yet another acne culprit– developing allergies to certain foods. Reducing your stress level while using probiotic therapy will allow the helpful bacteria to flourish while preempting acne outbreaks.

3.Take the right probiotics in the right proportions

Pharmacist and complementary medicine advocate Dr. Author Presser says the important intestinal bacteria include Bifidobacteria, Lactobacillus (L.) Acidophilus, L. Rhamnosus, L. Plantrarum, L. Bulgaricus, Streptococcus Faecium and Streptococcus Thermophilus. Presser recommends taking probiotic supplements that contain all seven bacteria. In his book, The Nature Pharmacist’s Vitamin Primer, Presser points out, "look for a product that contains FOS, fructooligosacchrides."

Presser explains that FOS are sugars found in fruits, vegetables and grains. Microflora metabolize and multiply on fructooligosacchrides both in the intestine and in the tablet.

Likewise, the Harvard Women’s Health Watch has three more tips for anyone shopping for probiotics:

The recommended doses range from 1 billion to 10 billion colony-forming units (CFU)-the amount contained in a capsule or two-several days per week.

A daily supplement for one to two weeks may improve conditions such as infectious or antibiotic-related diarrhea.

The microorganisms in probiotic supplements need to be alive when you take them (or when they’re freeze-dried for capsules). They may die on exposure to heat, moisture, or air. Some require refrigeration. Read the supplement label for proper storage instructions.

Even though probiotic therapy may appear extraneous after an intense acne regime, just remember that these microflora may also prevent future zit eruptions.

As the following article points out, you can have many allergies to soap products. This can be a problem if you are allergic to glycerine.

Skin care, and the dirty little secret

If you or a loved one suffers from skin allergies or other skin ailments, the cause may very well be right there in the shower.

The other day, I was thinking back to the very birth of Chalet Soap Co, and how it all began. It Began with constant trips to doctors and allergists for my daughter’s skin problems. She had constant rashes on her arms and legs, sometimes so severe that she would scratch until she drew blood. First , I thought that it was food allergies, so we did the elimination diet, cutting back to rice and honey and fresh vegetables. It didn’t work .

I started making pastes from Oatmeal and milk, which my Nana taught me to do when I was young. I found this would temporarily take the burn away, but, as she matured, the problem persisted and started turning into severe yeast infections. So, I started giving her oatmeal and milk baths every night so she could sleep . After numerous trips to the doctor and dermatologist, it was suggested that it was the soap I was using, and to only use "pure" soap. I was so glad to have found the problem, I immediately bought the purest soap I could find. Unfortunately, there was no change. As a matter of fact, the yeast infection got worse. I was heartbroken for her.

Then one evening, while visiting friends, I was discussing "pure" soap with my girlfriends, when a newcomer to the group mentioned that she made "pure" soap, and invited me to come to her house and learn how to do it. I jumped at the opportunity, and was there the next day. As I watched her measure and mix, I was thinking how this was right up my alley, having been in the beauty business.

As we were getting ready to pour the soap, she handed me a pair of goggles and a face mask. She put them on as well, along with rubber gloves that fit up to her arm pits, and proceeded to open all the doors and windows. I asked her why we had to wear all of this protection, and she told me that the LYE was going in, and the room filled with smoky, gassy fumes. I was horrified. How was this "Pure" soap? If it was, I wanted nothing to do with it.

So, my search began, beginning with the study of exactly what Lye is. Needles to say, it became an obsession, and my research led me to a wealth of information on Sodium Lauryl Sulfates. I knew I had found our problem. I then started milling down the soap to dissipate the LYE from it, which is what Cleopatra had her servants do. It was time consuming and labor intensive, and I found that the cured bars were not very appealing. That brought me to the discovery of a glycerine soap base that was SLS free. I started researching herbs and hydrosols , and many other all natural ingredients to incorporate in order to make bars for specific skins and skin problems

That was 5 years ago. My daughter is 15 now, and has never had another yeast infection , rash, or even a pimple, and neither has my 20 year old son, who, prior to that, had terrible back acne and would never take his shirt off at the beach. I started doing research on how to make other SLS free products, such as Shampoos , Conditioners, Body Lotions, as well as many other products. I now sell a complete line of skin care and hair care products, all made with the best natural oils and vegetable derived surfactants. If you are experiencing skin disorders, or if you just want to hydrate your skin the natural way, focus your attention on the products taht you use to clean your skin everyday.

Many people want to improve their smile. Among many ways to do thins is the application of veneers (lumineers). The article following gives questions to ask about lunimeers. One obvious consideration is are you allergic to lumineers?

What To Ask Your Dentist About Veneers

Actress Goldie Hawn has been quoted as saying, "I have witnessed the softening of the hardest of hearts by a simple smile."

Indeed, your smile is a powerful tool. It can help you get a job, make friends, and negotiate your way out of life’s stickiest situations.

Those who weren’t born with a movie-star smile, however, are increasingly turning to cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as veneers, to improve the look of dull, worn or misshapen teeth.

Fueled in part by the popularity of "makeover" reality shows, aesthetic or cosmetic dental services increased an average of 12.5 percent in the past five years, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Veneers in particular are among the top three cosmetic dentistry procedures requested by patients age 20 to 50, having increased by over 250 percent.

If you are considering veneers, the doctor you choose to perform the procedure can make a big difference in your final results. Here are some vital questions to ask your dentist:

* Do you place Lumineers? Because traditional veneers require the painful removal of sensitive tooth structure, more dentists are choosing a painless alternative called Lumineers by Cerinate. Lumineers are made only from patented Cerinate porcelain and are offered by more than 8,000 dentists nationwide.

* Will I need any shots or anesthesia during the veneer placement? Most likely, if you are getting traditional veneers, the pain involved from the removal of sensitive tooth structure would require anesthesia or shots.

With Lumineers, however, no anesthetic or numbing shots are needed. Plus, no uncomfortable temps are required while you wait for your Lumineers to be created. Once the procedure is completed, there is no post-placement discomfort or sensitivity, which means the Lumineers will look natural and feel comfortable from the start.

* How long do Lumineers last? Lumineers have been clinically proven to last up to 20 years and come with a five-year warranty.

* What if I don’t like the veneers? Because traditional veneers require grinding down sensitive tooth structure, the effects are irreversible. This is not the case with Lumineers, as your original teeth will remain intact.
