Living with a Latex Allergy
 by: Grant Segall 7eb

d95

The interesting thing about latex is that it is a huge part of our society, often without being noticed. For example, carpet backing, pencil erasers, baby pacifiers, wheelchair tires, toys, balloons, and even elastic in clothing is latex. However, most people relate latex to adhesive tape used in hospitals, which is yet another example. Because so many people have latex allergy and the number of things made from latex is growing, symptoms are on the rise.

 allergic to lumineers

Take the healthcare industry for example – this particular area is surrounded by latex in the form of tape, surgical gloves, disposable syringes, and blood pressure cuffs. Because doctor’s offices, clinics, and hospitals use so much latex, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have released results of a study that show a minimum of 12% of all healthcare workers eventually deal with some level of latex allergy. Even so, the biggest concern regarding latex allergy relates to children with disability since their small, sick bodies are highly sensitive and susceptible, putting them at greater risk.

Keep in mind that when it comes to latex allergy, there are many different forms of reaction, some minor and some major. For instance, a Type 1 latex allergy is considered as hypersensitive, which produces symptoms ranging from minor such as watery eyes and a runny nose to more severe problems that would include nausea and vomiting, hives, and shortness of breath. With Type 1, the problem is that latex particles become airborne and then inhaled.

signs of pet allergies

For Type 4 latex allergy, the reaction is limited to any exposed area. This would include someone having surgery and the bandages being held on by latex tape. The result is a skin rash and irritation, swelling, and redness that typically lasts anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. Obviously, this type of latex allergy is not nearly as serious although it is quite frustrating.

Keep in mind that latex is actually a natural product that comes from a rubber tree’s sap. Because it is so flexible, strong, and costs very little to manufacture, it takes first place over many similar manmade products. If you suspect that you have a latex allergy, you can see your doctor for a thorough examination and blood work. This test involves looking at a certain antibody called IgE immunoassays, which is performed through skin testing.

 allergy market in india

This particular test is currently being approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and while it is highly accurate for proving latex allergy, it is not designed to determine the severity of the allergy. Therefore, in addition to the testing, if you have reaction to latex, you should avoid using it, turning instead to vinyl or plastic.

Allergic to Nitrile

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Nitrile gloves can be substituted for latex if you are allergiv to latex.  If you are  allergic to nitrile you will need to find another alternative.

Why Choose Semperguard Nitrile Gloves

Nitrile gloves are very similar to latex gloves as they have also been made from synthetic latex, but do not actually contain the proteins that latex ones have. These types of gloves are far more durable than other gloves being used as protective wear and are resistant not only to being punctured but tearing as well. The Nitrile glove is in fact three times as strong as traditional rubber gloves and are also resistant to many chemicals that are used in medical and industrial environments as well as in the home.
allergic to lumineers
Unlike latex gloves, Nitrile ones are very easy to put on as they are far less resistant to friction. The gloves are extremely popular with medical professionals as they are also very flexible. When you are thinking about buying gloves such as these then are a few things that you will need to take into consideration first.

Firstly you need to think about how much protection you want the gloves to provide you with. Secondly, you need to look at not just the quality of the gloves, but also the way in which they have been produced. Finally, you need to discover whether they are likely to cause any kind of allergic reaction in you when you wear them.

All Nitrile gloves are given a grade and it is this which will quickly tell you what level of protection that they offer to you. The grades for any kind of Nitrile glove are from 1 to 3 and the higher the number the more protection they will provide to the person wearing them. In most cases Nitrile gloves which come with a grade 3 are those worn by those in medical fields from doctors, to surgeons, to nurses to paramedics.
allergic to glycerine
However, there are Nitrile gloves that one can use at home and these are of a far less superior quality than those used by medical professionals. However, they still offer your hands good protection no matter what task you are doing. Wear these kinds of gloves around the home when you are doing tasks such as painting or cleaning drains.

All Nitrile gloves have inside them cornstarch which further helps to make the process of actually putting them on much easier. As well as them coming in a variety of different sizes so that they fit all hands. You can either purchase them from extra small to extra large sizes and there are differences also in the thickness of the gloves as well. Plus they can also be made in a number of different textures so you are sure to find a pair that meet your own particular requirements perfectly.

Before you purchase any Nitrile gloves you need to know exactly what size you should be buying. The best way of working out what size you need is to find out the circumference of your hand. You do this by taking a tape measure or ruler and placing it across the palm of your hand from the base of the thumb to the other side that is level with it.
allergies after giving birth
It is vital that after purchasing your Nitrile gloves that you make sure that you store them properly. These gloves should be at all times get out of the way of direct sources of light or heat. Unfortunately if left near a heat source or somewhere that light is able to shine onto them then very quickly the material that they are made from begins to disintegrate. This will then mean that when you use them they will offer you little or no protection.

Blue Dye Allergy

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Blue dye allergy  can be one of many causes of asthma attacks.  The following article lists other causes and remidies for asthma.

Different Types Of Asthma, Causes And Remedies

Asthma is an illness where irritants cause inflammation of the bronchial tubes, as they become very sensitive, and thus making it difficult to breath. Contraction of the muscles around the wind pipe can be a result of this inflammation. The inflammation can also cause excessive mucus in the air passage as well as swelling of the lining may occur if its an airway inflammation.

Age is not a factor as far as asthma is concerned though it’s notable that around 50 percent of the cases initiate in children below the age of 10. And among these children around 65 percent are boys compared to only 35 percent girls. It is one of the chief culprits as far as respiratory illness among teenagers and children are concerned. Though its observed that the condition may improve with age. 17 million American citizens are asthma patients according to estimation.
symptoms of bee sting allergies
Asthma is a lung disease which can be reversed either with treatment or it may heal spontaneously. Obstruction or constriction of the airway is the characteristics of Asthma. Lack of breathe called dyspnea and mild wheezing constitute the moderate symptoms of asthma while fatal respiratory failures are the grave symptom. The mild symptoms may occur before a serious attack.

People suffering from asthma face difficulty breathing out but can breathe in without any problem. During inhalation the diaphragm lowers pushing the ribs out and thus enlarging the lungs to let air around any blockage. But during exhalation when the rib cage closes in, the diaphragm moves up obstructing the air from moving around the blockage.

Two types of asthma

Intrinsic asthma and extrinsic asthma are the two types of asthma. When allergy to some kind of external material causes asthma its called extrinsic. And when an obvious external agent is not identifiable it is called intrinsic asthma.

Substances like dust, pollens, dander, food, molds, feather pillows, some types of food additives etc may cause spontaneous allergic reaction in some children which may be a beginning of extrinsic asthma. It is a hereditary disorder called atopy where the body has an inclination for allergic reactions.

An intrinsic asthma usually follows a serious respiratory infection to which no external allergen can be associated. An intrinsic asthma condition may worsen due to emotional stress, changes in temperature or humidity, fatigue, irritants, exposure to fumes and gases etc. some people may be patients of intrinsic as well as extrinsic asthma.
signs of pet allergies
All asthma attacks are not of the same degree. The oxygen supply to the critical organs may get severely affected due to closing of the airways in a serious asthma attack. This may lead to a medical emergency condition. Severe asthma attacks are known to be the reason for many deaths. An asthma attack gives a person a sensation similar to drowning.
Actions like medication or other remedies can be used to prevent an asthma attack if the asthma symptoms and its warning signs are learnt.

There may be long phases of time when an asthma patient either shows very few and feeble symptoms of asthma or doesn’t show any at all. But asthma attacks can also be seen to last for prolonged periods.

The cough may sound dry and stretched during a severe attack. A a thick mucus is expectorated as the attack abates. Small children don’t produce the mucus after an attack. The breathing is normal between severe attacks.

In symptomatic asthma it is typical for the breathing sound to get reduced. Also forced exhalation for long periods is typical of air passage blockage. Lung hyperinflation is usually very common in children. Tachypnea, tachycardia and diaphoresis may coincide with severe attack. The patient may not be able to speak without pausing to catch a breath after every few words. Initial signs of respiratory failure are lethargy, confusion and darkening (purple or blue) of the skin due to lack of oxygen called as Cyanosis.
sunflower seeds, tree nut allergy
Possible asthma remedies

Various drugs like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin may initiate an asthma attack. Even chemicals like Tartazine (yellow food dye) can cause an asthma attack. Heavy work and exercise may cause huge loss of moisture and heat in the upper airways. This may be followed by bronchospasm leading to exercise induced attack. Even exercise can be an attack initiator.

When treating severe asthma patients the target is to address the symptoms like coughing, wheezing, inflammation, airway swelling, lack of breath and lower them while an attempt is made to increase the pulmonary ventilation. Following a severe attack the treatment usually is focused on addressing the initiating factors like the irritants or the allergens in the environment.

In a process similar to vaccination, asthma may be treated by injecting the patient with limited amount of the antigen causing the attack when the cause of the asthma is identified as a particular toxin, bacterium, virus or other substance foreign to the body. This way the response of the immune system to the antigen is brought under control.

Allergy Bedding for Dust Mite Allergy Relief

Many people do suffer from dust mite allergy. What can be done for them? Allergy bedding exists which is the best way to combat a dust mite allergy.

Allergy Bedding for Dust Mite Allergy Relief

Human perception is an amazing thing. If we don’t see it, we can fool ourselves into thinking something doesn’t exist. That’s probably a good thing, because if we saw all the things we don’t normally see, we would probably never sit down or sleep again.

Every home in the world has millions of tiny organisms living in its chairs and beds. Do you want to think about sleeping with millions of tiny bugs that feed off your skin? Me neither! But people, who have a dust mite allergy, must think about it some of the time. If they don’t realize what they’ve got, they’ll never buy the allergy control bedding they need for a good night’s sleep.
ringing in ears allergies
Dust mites are second only to common pollen as an allergen. Many people seek allergy relief thinking they are allergic to cats or pollen when it’s really dust mites that are the problem. For them, a better solution that pills or shots is allergy bedding. It’s a more cost effective and total solution to the problem of mites in the home. And it can be used by anyone regardless of pregnancy or other medical conditions.

What are Dust Mites?

mosquito bite allergy
Dust mites are bugs so small they cannot be seen with the human eye. They feed off of human and pet skin, and live in warm, humid areas where body warmth or sweat can keep them cozy and happy. Scientists estimate there can be over 19000 mites in one gram of dust. They are the proverbial "bed bugs" you always hear about.

However it is a myth that dust mites bite humans. They don’t. They only eat dead skin that naturally falls off of us as we go throughout our day. However, they do give off secretions and feces that human skin can react to. The tendency to react to that is a dust mite allergy. These allergies can range from mild to severe and can cause both a physical rash as well as traditional allergy symptoms.

What can be done for allergy sufferers?
Now that we are all pretty grossed about sharing our beds with millions of our closest little friends, lets have some good news. Allergy bedding exists which is the best way to combat a dust mite allergy.

Allergy control bedding uses encasing fabric that keeps the mites from being able to get into the bed, where they are warm and comfy. This fabric must be kept clean and be washed in hot water. However, it will severely limit the mites ability to make a home in your bed. Sheets and pillow cases can be purchased at many home retailers and through an allergist’s office or website. Do not just buy something that says "Non-allergenic". Make sure you purchase sheets and pillowcases that say specifically "dust mite prevention" or "encasing fabric".
signs of pet allergies
Another important tool in allergy relief to go along with allergy control bedding is an actual allergy control mattress or bed. These can also be purchased through websites or home retailers. The fabric of the actual mattress is made of a super-dry material that mites will not like living in, and the cover fabric also includes micro-fiber encased fabric that will keep the mites out of the bedding. It also can whisk away any dust mite feces or secretions to keep your skin dry and clean.

A final plus to allergy control bedding is the softness of the material. Because the micro-fabric is designed to keep the pores of the fabric close together, the actual material of the sheets, pillowcases and bedding is very soft and somewhat luxurious. That is a nice added bonus.

Dust mites are a reality in every home in the world. Cleaning out air ducts will not get rid of them (that is another myth, usually spread by air duct cleaning companies), and even the cleanest homes have them. The only way to give you piece of mind and allergy relief is to buy allergy control bedding and allergy bedding products such as sheets, pillows and pillow cases. These scientifically designed products can keep you from having mites in the bed, and will allow you to have a good, mite free, night’s sleep for a long time to come.

Are You Allergic to Glycerine?

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

As the following article points out, you can have many allergies to soap products.  This can be a problem if you are allergic to glycerine.

Skin care, and the dirty little secret

If you or a loved one suffers from skin allergies or other skin ailments, the cause may very well be right there in the shower.

The other day, I was thinking back to the very birth of Chalet Soap Co, and how it all began. It Began with constant trips to doctors and allergists for my daughter’s skin problems. She had constant rashes on her arms and legs, sometimes so severe that she would scratch until she drew blood. First , I thought that it was food allergies, so we did the elimination diet, cutting back to rice and honey and fresh vegetables. It didn’t work .
allergies after giving birth
I started making pastes from Oatmeal and milk, which my Nana taught me to do when I was young. I found this would temporarily take the burn away, but, as she matured, the problem persisted and started turning into severe yeast infections. So, I started giving her oatmeal and milk baths every night so she could sleep . After numerous trips to the doctor and dermatologist, it was suggested that it was the soap I was using, and to only use "pure" soap. I was so glad to have found the problem, I immediately bought the purest soap I could find. Unfortunately, there was no change. As a matter of fact, the yeast infection got worse. I was heartbroken for her.

Then one evening, while visiting friends, I was discussing "pure" soap with my girlfriends, when a newcomer to the group mentioned that she made "pure" soap, and invited me to come to her house and learn how to do it. I jumped at the opportunity, and was there the next day. As I watched her measure and mix, I was thinking how this was right up my alley, having been in the beauty business.
probiotic therapy and allergies
As we were getting ready to pour the soap, she handed me a pair of goggles and a face mask. She put them on as well, along with rubber gloves that fit up to her arm pits, and proceeded to open all the doors and windows. I asked her why we had to wear all of this protection, and she told me that the LYE was going in, and the room filled with smoky, gassy fumes. I was horrified. How was this "Pure" soap? If it was, I wanted nothing to do with it.

So, my search began, beginning with the study of exactly what Lye is. Needles to say, it became an obsession, and my research led me to a wealth of information on Sodium Lauryl Sulfates. I knew I had found our problem. I then started milling down the soap to dissipate the LYE from it, which is what Cleopatra had her servants do. It was time consuming and labor intensive, and I found that the cured bars were not very appealing. That brought me to the discovery of a glycerine soap base that was SLS free. I started researching herbs and hydrosols , and many other all natural ingredients to incorporate in order to make bars for specific skins and skin problems

 ringing in ears allergies

That was 5 years ago. My daughter is 15 now, and has never had another yeast infection , rash, or even a pimple, and neither has my 20 year old son, who, prior to that, had terrible back acne and would never take his shirt off at the beach. I started doing research on how to make other SLS free products, such as Shampoos , Conditioners, Body Lotions, as well as many other products. I now sell a complete line of skin care and hair care products, all made with the best natural oils and vegetable derived surfactants. If you are experiencing skin disorders, or if you just want to hydrate your skin the natural way, focus your attention on the products taht you use to clean your skin everyday.

Are You Allergic to Lumineers?

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Many people want to improve their smile.  Among many ways to do thins is the application of veneers (lumineers).  The article following gives questions to ask about lunimeers.  One obvious consideration is are you allergic to lumineers?

What To Ask Your Dentist About Veneers

Actress Goldie Hawn has been quoted as saying, "I have witnessed the softening of the hardest of hearts by a simple smile."
allergic reactions to fulvic acid
Indeed, your smile is a powerful tool. It can help you get a job, make friends, and negotiate your way out of life’s stickiest situations.

Those who weren’t born with a movie-star smile, however, are increasingly turning to cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as veneers, to improve the look of dull, worn or misshapen teeth.

Fueled in part by the popularity of "makeover" reality shows, aesthetic or cosmetic dental services increased an average of 12.5 percent in the past five years, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Veneers in particular are among the top three cosmetic dentistry procedures requested by patients age 20 to 50, having increased by over 250 percent.

If you are considering veneers, the doctor you choose to perform the procedure can make a big difference in your final results. Here are some vital questions to ask your dentist:

* Do you place Lumineers? Because traditional veneers require the painful removal of sensitive tooth structure, more dentists are choosing a painless alternative called Lumineers by Cerinate. Lumineers are made only from patented Cerinate porcelain and are offered by more than 8,000 dentists nationwide.

* Will I need any shots or anesthesia during the veneer placement? Most likely, if you are getting traditional veneers, the pain involved from the removal of sensitive tooth structure would require anesthesia or shots.

With Lumineers, however, no anesthetic or numbing shots are needed. Plus, no uncomfortable temps are required while you wait for your Lumineers to be created. Once the procedure is completed, there is no post-placement discomfort or sensitivity, which means the Lumineers will look natural and feel comfortable from the start.

* How long do Lumineers last? Lumineers have been clinically proven to last up to 20 years and come with a five-year warranty.

* What if I don’t like the veneers? Because traditional veneers require grinding down sensitive tooth structure, the effects are irreversible. This is not the case with Lumineers, as your original teeth will remain intact.

The first steps to feeling better is to choose the right aromatherapy oils for the job. This is where many people struggle, as there are hundreds if not thousands of essential oils to choose from. Listed below are a few of the most popular and effective aromatherapy oils that can be used to treat the cold virus.

Eucalyptus oil is a one of the most popular oils in cough and cold remedies; it has excellent decongestant properties, making it ideal for the treatment of flu, coughs and colds.

Peppermint is also a wonderful oil to use as it is nearly one third menthol which makes it a great oil for clearing head colds. Many people will recognize the healing properties of menthol as this ingredient is used in many modern medicines such as Vicks Vaporub.

Lavender essential oil is the oil to choose if your cold is preventing a good night’s sleep. Used just before bedtime in a warm bath, the Lavender will relax you ready for bed, as well as healing with its powerful antiseptic properties.

There are many other oils that can be used to treat the common cold, but these are some of the most popular and are an ideal starting point if you are new to aromatherapy.

Now you have selected your oils, you need to know how to use them. There are many ways of using these essential oils, but the most effective way of treating coughs and colds, is through steam inhalation. Inhalation is also one of the simplest ways of using essential oils.

To prepare a steam inhalation simply add a few drops of aromatherapy oil to a bowl of boiling water, cover your head with a towel, bend over the bowl and deeply inhale for several minutes. This method will give the best results in the shortest time. Both Peppermint and Eucalyptus are very effective when used in this way.

Another great way of using the oils is in a warm bath. Simply add up to ten drops of oil to your bath, the water will relax you and the healing properties of the oils will get to work on your cold. An excellent recipe for your therapeutic bath is 3 drops of Eucalyptus, 3 drops of Lavender and 3 drops of Peppermint.

By following these simple methods, the symptoms of your cold should soon start to fade and you should start to feel your old self again.

Living with a Latex Allergy
 by: Grant Segall 7eb

The interesting thing about latex is that it is a huge part of our society, often without being noticed. For example, carpet backing, pencil erasers, baby pacifiers, wheelchair tires, toys, balloons, and even elastic in clothing is latex. However, most people relate latex to adhesive tape used in hospitals, which is yet another example. Because so many people have latex allergy and the number of things made from latex is growing, symptoms are on the rise.

Even so, the biggest concern regarding latex allergy relates to children with disability since their small, sick bodies are highly sensitive and susceptible, putting them at greater risk.thermoplastic rubber, latex allergy
